Capillary Arrays
Dense arrays of collimated holes for flow, filtration, and precision geometry.
Collimated Holes, Inc. manufactures structures of collimated holes—also known as capillary arrays. Through glass drawing and etching processes, we produce arrays, disks, plates, and individual capillaries across a wide range of diameters, geometries, and plate sizes. Drawn-tube structures offer smoother interiors and freer length-to-diameter ratios; fused etched structures deliver tighter packing and uniformity. Open Area Ratio can be tuned from under 1% to nearly 70%.

Open Area Ratio
Open Area Ratio (OAR) describes the fraction of a plate occupied by open capillary channels versus solid glass. We adjust OAR from less than 1% to nearly 70% to balance flow capacity, mechanical strength, and optical or filtration performance.
Etched Versus Drawn Structures
Fused etched capillary arrays are typically more tightly packed and uniform. Drawn-tube structures are less constrained by etch length-to-diameter limits and produce smoother interior channel surfaces—useful when flow characteristics or coating adhesion matter.
Plate Sizes and Geometries
Capillary diameters, hole geometries, and overall plate dimensions are engineered to application tolerances. We support both standard reference configurations for quotation and fully custom geometries for OEM and research programs.

Frequently asked
What is a capillary array?
A capillary array is a plate or disk containing many parallel collimated holes (capillaries) used for flow control, filtration, microfluidics, or precision apertures. Collimated Holes manufactures these in fused etched and drawn-tube forms.
Can Open Area Ratio be customized?
Yes. Open Area Ratio can typically be adjusted from under 1% to nearly 70%, depending on process and mechanical requirements.
